Camera Construction from War Debris
This sub-project involves the construction of functional cameras from remnants of bombs and downed aircraft—materials that, in some cases, originate from Switzerland. By transforming these objects of violence into tools for image-making, the work critically examines Switzerland’s concealed involvement in global conflicts through its arms industry. The resulting cameras serve as both material witnesses and symbolic instruments, redirecting the narrative from destruction to reflection. To date, four different cameras have been built in Laos. Over time, however, the dimensions of the photographic papers used and the technical requirements of the cameras have evolved. Insights gained from earlier research have been integrated into the design and construction of the newer models.
